Hello ,
can someone help? I'm new here and tried to install virtual box and BOINC manager. Both applications are on my Mac now, but finally it does not work. I do not know what was wrong during the installation process and how I can solve the issue mentioned in the subject.
OS is MAC Snow Leopard. I run a firewall on the Mac with pretty high level of protection. I assume it could be something in the firewall that prevents all this from working, but i do not know.
Thanks in advance for any help.
kind regards,
Hartmut

Hi Hartmut and welcome to T4T project :)

I've been away from the project for a while and I may not be fully up to date on new developments but at one time OSX users were required to run "the enabling script" before installing BOINC. Did you do that?

For instructions on the enabling script please go to the front page and follow the link named "web site for more documentation, data and instructions". Follow the links to installing BOINC on OSX where you will find the instructions for downloading and using the enabling script.

I do know nothing about MAC's, but can point you to these threads special for MAC-users.

How to run the EnablingVirtualBox script

or

Macintosh : Setting up the client correctly

If you cannot solve your issue with what's written, report it and you have to wait for someone with more MAC-skills.

Greetings! I have i7 laptop 2.2(2.8 Boost) Ghz (with windows 7), and i installed boinc and VirtuaBox to participate on Test4Theory project.

But, again and again - even after reinstalling, it shows: FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted.

It continues still doing work, but i do not know if it is "legimate", so that it fills its purpose.

It downloads disk image at first job, and does compute first job, but after that VBox always annouces, FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted - But it continues loading works and doing them.

I would value information, are these jobs any value if it works em under these conditions?

Or should i just wait for never VBox, or do something to it?

Ty

No, these tasks do nothing valuable, except you probably get free credits and T4T is allocating 1 core without load on your client.

Perhaps this thread will help

Afterwards you could do the Virtual Machine Cleanup to be sure.

Hello to everybody,

I downloaded the Virtual Box on my laptop with a Windows Vista OS,
first 2 weeks everything was running smoothly but after that it start to give me an error message.
I tried to run the application again but did not work, I downloaded the new version Virtual Box 4.2.4 and did not work at all, nothing seem to appear on the screen, only if I "run as an Administrator", I receive the following message:

Virtual Box Critical Error
Failed to create VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.
Details:

Callee RC:
CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE (0x80080005)

About 2 weeks ago my Antivirus (Avast) has removed 1 file but I am not sure it
was connected to the VirtualBox
Now only the BOINC application is still running and it's not stopping.
Regards

My understanding is that Virtual Box 4.2.x has some issues which might not have been resolved yet. I am running 4.1.22 and all is working fine.

There has been a posting under News indicating that there has been some success with VB 4.2.4.
http://lhcathome2.cern.ch/test4theory/forum_thread.php?id=1069
However, it might be wise to wait until more reports of success are posted.

If you are doing an initial install then you probably need to download an earlier version.[/url]

Hi,

After checking your hosts everything seems to be running ok. In any case, if you are experiencing again this problem you may want to try our new wrapper which is in beta mode but that it is working really well for everyone. If you want to give it a try, let me know it.

Cheers,

Daniel

FYI...

Just updated to 4.2.4 on my Windowz 7 system, 64bit, Intel i7-2600, 16BG, NVIDIA. Everything appears to be running okay. The only thing I see that is different is that I can't get the previous activity "stuff" in the BOINC_VM window using ALT-F1/F2.

I changed to the new V4.2.4 in the middle of a run. The Elapsed time in BOINC reverted to a full 24 hrs. Before the change I had only about 15 hrs left. (I think this is because the 24 hr time is cleared when the new VM is installed.

Installation was done by doing a Advanced-Shutdown connected client from BOINC and then did a Install of the new V4.2.4. I was prompted for the VM Extensions and Installed those too.

At november the 26th Ihave been written that suddenly VB not works. I installed different versions (older/newest) but nothing helped. (no bootable device found, error-messages from Windows, two vm's in the VB etc.)Daniel said, ther is everything ok with my/our hosts. Yesterday I discovered, that there are five or six computers shown under my account page. I merged them and the sun is shining anymore. Everything works fine. But where do those computers come from?

FYI Update

Been running VB4.2.4 now for a few days and have had one full BOINC Task go through the new VB with no problems. This included two nights of shutdown of the system. Once the old Task finished and the next task started the ALT-F1/F2 worked again.

Running Windows 7, INTEL i7-2600, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA. I also run the SETI, Einstein, and (old) LHC@Home projects. Everything seems to be running fine (SETI@Home servers are DOA for the moment).
