Congratulations and thanks to all our volunteers for helping CERN to reach the extremely impressive total of 2 Trillion events successfully simulated on our project.

When we passed our 1st trillion events in 2013, CERN published the following story on its Web site, and it still makes excellent reading:

Greetings to all from the T4T Team

Dear all,

A big thank you also from me as an LHC scientist, to all the volunteers, project developers, and enthusiasts for their contributions to this huge tally of events that have been simulated. If the number makes you wonder whether we still need more, the answer is a strong yes please! The nature of the project is such that the physics simulations that you are running are updated when new versions of the underlying codes are released, which happens several times a year. These updates can be anything from trivial bug fixes to sophisticated implementations of new physics models. Additions also occur when new experimental results from the Large Hadron Collider are released. We therefore always need new simulation runs, to test new models, or subject old ones to new tests.

Our understanding of the incredibly complex collisions that occur in the LHC is continually evolving, and we are working hard to improve the event generators that you are running and thereby testing for us. Every time we make a theoretical advance, we release a new version of the generator, which can then be sent to Test4Theory / vLHC@home for trial by fire. And every time a new measurement is released by one of the experiments, it can be incorporated into our test suite to subject our simulations to new or improved constraints. The service delivered by this project, and by its scientific database front end, http://mcplots.cern.ch, therefore continues to be a highly valuable resource, helping to unravel the physics at the Large Hadron Collider and increase the precision of future studies.

And some of us never stop doing this.

I am running also ATLAS@home and LHC@home but I get little information about what they are doing.

LHC@home is used to tune the magnets that hold the particles in the accelerator.

Btw right now the CMS-dev site is having problems and for some reason all the links there bring you over here.

So if anyone needs these links, here you go.

Eric says they are testing a SixTrack GPU version, thus following a different course from Virtual machines.
